  1. I had the same reaction. Watching the news last night I actually said out loud, “church security guard?” When I heard where it was it made a little more sense. Still….

  2. It’s hard for Americans to conceive of the need for this, but in many 3rd world countries it’s a fact of life. Living in Manila, I eventually took for granted the security guards with their M-16’s at the entrance to every public place: restaurants, shopping centers, schools, and yes, churches. (Having an Armalite pointed at your vehicle does wonders for traffic control!)

    Seldom do we understand, let alone appreciate, the comparative safety we enjoy in this country.
