So the song stuck in my head from the new Switchfoot CD, “Nothing is Sound,” is Lonely Nation. Which made me think of P.O.D.’s Youth of a Nation. Which made me think of Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation.
And I thought it would be a new blog game to sweep the nation: what songs can you think of that have the word “nation” in the title? (You can’t use internet search in any form; just your brain cells.) Put your song associations to nation in the comments.
How about just the last part of the word? If so, my thought was…”My Generation” – the WhoAnd from “nation” to “generation” to “Degrees of Separation”……the guy that cuts my hair knows and has worked with P.O.D., and has gotten his ink from the same guy that does theirs….I go to Galaxy matches with a guy who roomed with the bass player of Switchfoot at UCSD….nothing with Janet Jackson, and I’d like to keep it that way.
Initially I thought of “Zoo Station” which is close to nation, and a song by my boys. :)Other than that, I got nuthin.
anti-flag – “Death of a Nation”public enemy – “It takes a nation of millions to hold us back”propaghandi – “And we thought nation states were bad”Okay, so maybe I listen to too much political music…
Public Enemy!! Yeah booooyyyyy!!!Man, that’s back when hip hop meant something, back before it went all corporate, back when it was about the truth and not about the bling, back when the beats could express the darkness and oppression of my own heart.Fight the Power!
