I’m writing because I really care about Newberg, and hope you can help.
The upcoming school board election is critical for Newberg’s future. There is a far-right group that has poured a lot of money into school board and city council elections. When the school board changed, they tried to ban Black Lives Matter and Pride flags, fired a superintendent, broke public meeting laws, and hired a superintendent who had been fired from one job and was on leave from another.
Almost 200 staff members have left the district since this board took over in summer 2021. Enrollment is down, finances are tight, and staff and students need different leadership.
Five out of the seven spots on the school board are up for election on May 16. I strongly recommend voting for the following five candidates:
Deb Bridges, Jeremy Hayden, Nancy Woodward, James Wolfer, and Sol Allen
They are not all “progressive.” Between the five, the Independent, Republican, and Democratic parties are all represented. What they share is strong ethics, honesty, and the knowledge to actually help schools.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
If you live in Newberg, even temporarily as a college student, please make sure you are registered to vote in Newberg. Then, please make sure to vote for these five candidates as soon as your ballots arrive.
If you no longer live in Newberg, will you contact your friends who do still live here and encourage them to vote for these candidates? Every single vote is needed!
