“Gilead: A Novel” by Marilynne Robinson
Brilliantly written and theologically articulate, this is too close to home for me as a pastor. This novel is written in the voice of an old pastor from a line of pastors, as if it were letters he is writing to his young son. He’s writing because he is dying, and he won’t have the chance to live long enough to tell his son what a father should. He weaves brilliant observations on people and theology with his own journey toward forgiveness and grace. He has lived almost his entire life in the small town of Gilead, Iowa.
