My read of FINDING HILDEGARD kept bringing to mind “journey.” I saw three intertwined pilgrimages: (1) the life of Hildegard of Bingen, (2) the author’s quest for wholeness, and (3) the convergence of Koskela and Hildegard that formed a common path forward. After finishing the book, I found that “trek” was a more appropriate word than “journey.” Difficulty and hardship are easily recognized aspects of their relatable stories.
FINDING HILDEGARD digs deep and turns “medieval wisdom” into timeless truth.
Three examples of text I highlighted from what Hildegard showed Koskela and that Koskela shares with us:
“Less punishment, more hope. Less distance, more intimacy. Less chasm, more union.”
“Humility requires dependence and interdependence.”
“The message of surrender is best aimed not at others but at ourselves, in our places of power and privilege.”
