And the number 1 reason I’m a Quaker is…

1. I want to join Christ in changing the world.

I’m a Quaker because of this radical way of life where an intimate, alive relationship with God is married to a holistic, all-encompassing, action-oriented embrace of social justice. It’s the beautiful bonding of the vertical and horizontal relationships in our lives, the bewildering balance of mysticism and activism. I want to know and be known by Jesus; I want to love and be loved by the God of the universe. And that means I want to be a channel through whom God loves and transforms the world. The mystery of God’s will is that we are chosen to join what God is doing, to “bring all things in heaven and earth together under one head, even Christ.” (Ephesians 1: 10.) This is what it means for me to be a Quaker, and why I gladly take the name.

  1. Gregg: I recently noticed from the Quaker Life website that you had your Top 10 list published in the November/December 2007 issue. Congratulations!
