I caught part of a show on Oregon Public Broadcasting tonight that documented documenters, focusing on the early photographers of the Columbia Gorge. Fascinating on multiple levels. A triumphant story on the one hand, the massive transformation of environment in fifty short years as humans bent the land and the water to our will. A tragedy in others, as cultures and fish and history were lost forever beneath the still waters caught behind the brilliantly engineered dams on the Columbia.
I wonder what we are triumphantly and tragically transforming even as I write this tonight?
