Aubrey's ride

Being sick meant this week has been extremely busy, trying to catch up. But when I get to the weekend, I know how to have a good time!

Last night, friends invited Elaine and me to go see Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at the Portland Center Stage. We literally had front row, center tickets; it was amazing to see a well-done play that close! Anyway, when it was over, the rear left tire on our Prius was flat as a pancake. A big nail was the culprit, but it showed how poorly our tires had worn. So today Aubrey and I got them replaced. At Les Schwab. And we were there for two and a half hours. Two and a half HOOOOOOUUUUUUURRRRRRRSSSSS! I mean sure, they have free popcorn, but come on; Aubrey’s five and a half.

She did much better than could be expected, actually.

Now, to make this story complete, I have to tell you about when we bought a used Toyota Echo a year and a half ago, the car I usually drive. The people we bought it from had put on these super dark windows and hot looking wheels, and people teased me quite a bit, saying it looked like a pimpmobile. I’m still wounded over that. It hurts on the inside, hurts real bad. But I’m strong.

At Les Schwab, they have this computer where you load in your car from their database, and then you can click on all kinds of different wheels and tires and color and you can lower your ride and see how awesomely cool it can become. So Aubrey killed a half hour or so doing that, and let me tell you people, SHE knows how to make a car look hot!

  1. HAHHAA TOO funny! oohh John DID say they were CRAZY busy yesterday-he didn’t even get a full lunch!! yikes! He never said he saw you though, must have just missed each other.

I’m seriously voting for that nice purple color. But the car DEFINITELY needs some ‘cool’ spinners on the wheels. Yes, only then you will have made it in this world Gregg. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Bummer! You could have had my 9:00 Tuesday morning appointment. I was going to take the CRV in for new tires but Steve did it yesterday instead. I gather you missed both him and Dan McC since you didn’t mention them. They were there first thing.

And the purple car is RAD. I vote for the spinners too. And I can just see that sweet stuffed bear sitting in the back window and a pink air freshener hanging from the mirror in front.

And who would say such a thing about your cute little gold Echo!!?

  3. Ok, I retract my last comment to an extent. John asked me last night ‘oh! did I tell you who I saw at work yesterday? Gregg!’ He went on and on about how bad he felt, that you couldn’t have come in on a worse day-they were so busy!! Just your luck, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Yeah, it was busy, but that’s life when you get a flat on a tire that I knew they wouldn’t repair. I’m sure my car is not in as good shape as it COULD have been, because somebody besides John worked on it. ๐Ÿ™‚ The irony is I’m back this morning for an alignment so the new tires won’t look like the old.

Kathy, I couldn’t have waited until Tuesday on the bicycle tire spare. Aubrey is willing to sell her design expertise for any of your rides, by the way. She favors the pink/silver/purple spectrum, lowers every car, and is drawn to whitewalls.

OH! And the cruel person who would say such a thing about my Echo’s initials are Todd Brand.

  5. Ah yes, you can’t get far on the doughnut spares. We have a real one so I hadn’t considered that. Of course you couldn’t wait. I’m afraid pink/purple would clash with the blue/black/burgandy scheme we have started with our current cars. I’ll keep Aubrey in mind though next time we trade in.

And, if it helps you feel better (but don’t tell TB), the first day of high school a couple of years ago, the neighbor kid riding with us saw Todd’s car in the parking lot and wanted to know if it was a hearse. ๐Ÿ™‚
